You can now follow my adventures on Twitter as well! Yup, I finally gave in and have started Tweeting! Lots activity going on for me. I've been supply teaching at my old high school here in Parry Sound. Still searching for some sort of job in or around Kelowna. Trying to figure out my travels surrounding New Caledonia in May. Working on getting some more sponsorship to try and offset all the costs associated with training and competing (remember, I do this all out of pocket, there is no funding available as an outrigger paddler). The next phase of the Adventure is upon me. The "holidays" back home are over and it's time for me to get back out on the water. Too much snow/ice and cold temperatures here in Parry Sound mean that I have to head back west to find some open water and milder temperatures. I'd go south to the warmth if I could afford it! But alas, back to Kelowna I go. In Kelowna I have a great group of folks that are going to help me in my training. There are the two Jeff's that will push me on the water (one is faster and one a tad slower than me), there's Sandra who kicks my butt in the gym and in dryland workouts. Plus there's hookups I'm makig with a chiropractor and other medical professionals that are required to get and keep me in top form leading up to the World Championships. So that all starts next week. In February there's this little event called the Olympics that are taking place in Vancouver. Since that's only 4 hours away from Kelowna, I figure that would be a good time for the first roadtrip of 2010. I really just want to be there to experience the atmosphere but I may actually get to go to some of the XC skiing events with my friend Allison. Got my fingers crossed hoping that her other friend can't go :) I'll be doing a couple of races over the next couple months that are part of the PWORCA Winter Series just to be social and get some hard training runs in. Racing leading up to the Worlds is not going to be about winning for me, it's going to be about quality training sessions and testing new techniques. I'm still praying that my dream comes true for March, which would see me running some outrigger camps for someone in Hawaii! It's going to be a last minute decision as the owner won't know until about the week before if he needs me. I'd love to have that warm time on great water in top of the line brand new boats working with eager paddlers from all around the globe! If it doesn't work out then I hope it's a warm March in the Okanagan! April will bring a race or 2 as the Canadian Outrigger Racing Association season gets going. If I don't have a full time job then I'm looking at driving back to Ontario mid-April, doing some marathon races before heading down to Fiji in May. I've been offered the chance to paddle in Fiji leading up to the Worlds in New Caledonia! While in New Caledonia, I'm planning on getting as much race video and blogs posted as I can so folks back home can follow Team Canada's results. It all depends on internet connections of course but, hey, that's the plan. Following Worlds, I'll have some time in Australia before coming back to Ontario to race a few weeks (Parry Sound, Liberty, Toronto Island) before driving back west to live on the road for the summer racing and exploring. Now if I actually get a job where I have limited time off, this will all change but I might as well dream big while I can! As for post-summer 2010, really haven't thought that far yet. It's no secret now that I plan on staying out west. I'm hoping to find permanent employment and settle there. I love the mountains, the lake, the small town feel of the west side, the active lifestyles and friendly open nature of the people there. And again .... WHY NOT!! You may not know this but all my expenses/costs/fees come out of my own pocket. I DO NOT recieve any funding from the government as an athlete representing Canada. I am actively seeking assistance with my training and competition expenses. If you or your company are interested in becoming a sponsor or supporter for Leanne’s quest to become the fastest woman in the World then please don’t hesitate to contact her here for a sponsorship package and information on what she can offer in return for your support.
